Gloucester Old Spot are probably one of the best known of all the British rare-breed pigs.

The Gloucester Old Spot is a black and white breed that is predominantly white in colour. In recent years, selection has been towards less black and now only a spot or two are usually found. The breed also has a heavy drooped ear.

The Old Spots are among the large size pigs in England.

The sows of the breed are known for large litters and high milk production. Prolificacy and milk production have been characteristics sought by practical producers everywhere.

Gloucester Old Spot are the oldest spotted pedigree breed in the world – they are very placid, easily managed and are the most laid back pig. They also produce some of the best-tasting pork and bacon. The Gloucestershire Old Spot is a multi-purpose pig providing tender, succulent, fine–grained meat. Suitable not only for pork or bacon production, but the breed is also especially useful for the market of hams, sausages.
